What to expect on race day...
What to expect on race day. The following except was taken from www.rcracing.com:
- Always plan on being at the track early to setup and have time to practice.
- Get your frequency clip. DON'T TURN ON YOUR RADIO until it is! You should NEVER turn on your radio in the pits at any time. Only when you have the frequency clip. Exceptions apply to those operating 2.4ghz radios (ie: Spektrum).
- When notified, sign up for the race. Don’t forget your frequency(ies)
- Once practice is over, and the heats posted, it's time to go find out when you'll be up for your first qualifying heat.
- Once your qualifying heat is called go pick up your transponder. The transponder should match your car number listed on the Heat Sheet. The transponder must be mounted on the body. (You'll need to drill a hole in your body for your transponder if you don't have one already).
- When your qualifying heat is done return your transponder and then go out and turn marshal for the next race! Very important. If you have repairs they will need to be done after you have marshaled. Here are some helpful tips for Marshaling from Offroadrc.ca :
- Be in place 2 minutes before the start of the heat/main so the starter can assess if coverage is provided.
- Do not leave your marshalling position. If a car is disabled remove it from the track and put it down. Someone who is not marshalling will have to come and get it.
- Watch your area, not the race. Pay attention.
- Don't take unnecessary risks to yourself or the cars still running on the track when trying to marshal.
- Don't put a marshaled car in the path of oncoming traffic.
- Put marshaled cars down facing the right direction.
- Put marshaled cars back on the track in the lane they came off (see item 3)
- Use your designated marshalling position - other areas may seem better but may block the drivers view of the track.
- No food or drinks while marshalling. It is not break time.
- If the car is not idling (nitro) or stopped (electric) don't marshal it.
- Stay in position until the timekeeper says the race is over. The buzzer says time is up, not that the race is finished.
- Suggestion - wear gloves while marshalling
- Once all the heats for the first round are completed get ready for your next round.
- Once qualifying is over, the race officials will print out the mains. The mains are based on your qualifying. The top qualifiers in each class will make up the 'A' Main, the next will be in the 'B' Main, and on down the line.
- Note your NEW transponder number. Make sure you grab the correct transponder for the mains, as it may be different than what you had been using.
- In some cases during Nitro races there may be 'bump-ups' for the winner. What this means if you win your 'C' or 'B' main, you can move up and run in the next race, starting in the last spot.
- Remember if you have any questions at a race; please don't hesitate to ask any of the guys, they'll be happy to help!
