The 2nd race of the 2018 Cap-Pele race series was held June 16th. The track was damp and early on offered a lot of grip. After the 3 qualifiers the track was quite slippery for the finals. The morning started quite warm and sunny, but the wind picked up and cooled down after lunch. The turnout was great with very full classes and quite a few onlookers came out. Plaques were provided by 333 Customs and Freedom Hobbies provided gift certificates to the racers! The results from this race will be added to the overall series points.
1/10 2wd Buggy – RESULTS
2nd: Dario Paoletti, 1st: Gregg Lawton, 3rd: Mark McKinnon
2wd buggy had a large field of entries this race. With 12 entries the drivers stand was so full that some racers used Mat’s stand beside the main stand. We welcomed new racer Dave Melanson into the class as this was his first ever race. The track had become quite slippery by the end of the day and it showed in the reduced laptimes in the final. At the start of the race Kyle, Dario, and Gregg got a good start and broke away from the group just a bit. Kyle rolled in a rut just past the banked berm and this allowed Dario and Gregg to break free. Not shown in the laps were the various lead changes, sometimes 2-3 per lap. On the last lap Dario had trouble on the small double which allowed Gregg to pass for the win while Dario settled for 2nd. While this was going on there was also a 3 way battle for 3rd with Kyle/Mark/Jeremy all fighting for the spot. On the last lap Mark got by Kyle for 3rd.
1/10 2wd SCT – RESULTS
3rd: Dario Paoletti, 1st Kyle McKinnon, 2nd: Jeremy Sherriff
A good sized group of 2wd SCT racers came to Cap-Pele to race! Kyle appeared to have the hot setup for the day and was able to take the lead from the TQ position and finish 1st, with Jeremy doing well to finish 2nd about 20 seconds behind. Patrick and Dario had a very close battle for 3rd for most of the race to entertain the fans. Dario made the pass and held it to the end. The story of the race was Reg Comeau who started 11th but worked his way to 5th in the final.
1/10 4wd SCT – RESULTS
2nd: Shane Foote, 1st: Gregg Lawton, 3rd: Stephane Doucet
4wd SCT continues to be a popular class with a field of 11 racers. At the start of the race Gregg and Stephane would have a close battle for 1st until Stephane made a driving error that allowed Gregg to seal the 1st place spot and also let Dario get into 2nd. Stephane and Dario would battle back and forth a few laps while Shane was patiently waiting to strike. Shane made the pass to get to 2nd and then he and Stephane would battle the rest of the race. Stephane would have to settle for 3rd only 1 second behind Shane in 2nd. In the rest of the field the lap chart shows lots of close racing and battles for position. This was an entertaining one to watch!
1/8 E-Buggy – RESULTS
3rd: Gislain Leblanc, 1st: Shane Foote, 2nd: Dario Paoletti
1/8 buggy has a good turnout as well this race with 8 racers. At the beginning of the race Gislain had a great start and jumped to the 2nd spot. After battling with Dario for a few laps he fell to 3rd, but kept within a striking distance of Dario in 2nd. Shane took advantage of his TQ position and lead the race and finished 1st. There was a bit of a battle shaping up in the back of the field with Superman running consistent, but William with a faster lap. In this race consistency took the 5th position.
1/8 Nitro Buggy – RESULTS
3rd: James Fenton, 1st: Shane Foote, 2nd: Chris Flewelling
In 1/8 Nitro buggy we welcomes 2 new racers to the class, James Fenton and Brian Roy. The format of the final was a 15 minute race to add the challenge of a forced pit stop. Dave dropped out early with a mechanical issue, which was disappointing after he had qualified 2nd and had a good chance for the podium. Shane got to an early lead in the race and ran consistently to finish 1st. Chris ran well at the start of the race, but had some flame outs mid race which keep him off the lead pace, and he finished 2nd. After an early setback, James was able to recover to out his buggy on the podium in 3rd.
1/8 E-Truggy – RESULTS
2nd: Shane Foote, 1st: Stephane Doucet, 3rd: Chris Flewelling
1/8 Truggy is becoming a popular class with the racers. It was a close race between several racers for positions. The race for first was fought over by Shane and Stephane. Stephane took an early lead, but a mistake dropped him to 2nd. Shane held him off for quite a few laps after that, but a key pass by Stephane sealed first and Shane settled for 2nd. Chris battled early with Patrick but ran consistent to make the 3rd spot on the podium. An interesting race was between Reg and William where they went lap after lap fighting for the 6th place position. Unfortunately, a loose screw in the steering rack on William’s truggy spoiled the fun.

Shane Foote (1st) and Chris Flewelling (2nd) had an exhibition race with their nitro truggies at the end of the day to get some interest going in the class.
