The 5th race of the 2018 Cap-Pele Revolution Raceway series was held Sept 15th, 2018. 22 drivers came from NB, NS, and PEI and entered 54 RC’s into the classes making this one of the biggest races of the series. George and Tara offer thanks to all the racers who came out for this race and making it such a fun event.
The day was very warm with no cloud and very little wind. Water was the word of the day for both the racers and track alike. George and Dario watered the track between each round of qualifying and before the final races to keep dust down and to offer additional grip from the damp track. With the track somewhat softer a few ruts were beginning to form, but the improved grip lead to some of the closest racing there has been all series.
Plaques were provided by 333 Customs, Subway cards provided by Revolution Raceway, and Freedom Hobbies provided $10gift certificates to the racers! The results from this race will be added to the overall series points.
2wd Buggy A-Main – RESULTS
2nd: Mark McKinnon, 1st: Gregg Lawton, 3rd(TQ): Kyle McKinnon
In this race Kyle, Mark, and Gregg were able to jump to a bit of a gap after the first sweeper corner. Unfortunately, there was a large pileup on the table top that took 2 marshals to clear out that mixed up the field. Gregg found a space and made the pass before the small infield double to gain the lead and he held it to the end. Kyle would make a last ditch effort to make a pass on the last lap but it would not hold, and Mark would finish 2nd and Kyle 3rd. Other drivers that improved their finish positions were Dario(Q5-F4), Gordon(Q7-F6), Cody(Q9-F7), and Mark Baird(Q10-F9).
2wd Buggy B-Main – RESULTS
Bump-Up: Jason Sullivan, Cody Porter, Mark Baird
The top 3 from the B-Main would move up to the A, which gives something for the racers to strive for. In this race there were quite a few crashes by the drivers which changed the order many times in the race. Just when you thought someone was going to run away with the win, there would be a bobble and the next fellow would get by. In the end consistent driving from Jason, Cody, and Mark would give them the bump to the A-Main. In this race Dave Heacock would join 2wd buggy to test the Kyosho in the dirt.
2wd SCT A-Main – RESULTS
2nd: Stephane Doucet, 1st(TQ): Kyle McKinnon, 3rd: Patrick Last (Mark McKinnon was a lap counter error)
2wd SCT was a large group this race with 11 racers. The whole group made it to the A-Main and considering the number of racers the race ran very clean. Kyle jumped to the lead early and would hold it for the win. A very close race for position was Stephane and Pat who would run nose to tail for 3/4 of the race until Stephane would make the pass for 2nd while Pat would settle for 3rd. Other racers who had a good final and improved on their starting position were William(Q6-F4), Reg(Q9-F6), Chris(Q10-F7), and George(Q11-F8).
4wd SCT A-Main – RESULTS
2nd: Dario Paoletti, 1st(TQ): Gregg Lawton, 3rd: Gordon Mercer
The 4wd SCT A-Main was full of surprises. First Stephane, who was running very strong early in the race, had to bow out with an electrical problem leaving a podium position up for grabs. Gregg seemed to have the race wrapped up, but then a rear wheel came unbolted from the truck. He then made 2 laps on 3 wheels until his pit crew could find a wheel nut and wrench, and after a quick pit stop he regained the lead and took the win! In the confusion Dario had the lead but then lost track of the race and let Gregg by, so he settled for 2nd. The last lap of the race for 3rd was worth the price of admission. Gislain was in 3rd but his motor overheated just feet away from the finish line. Dave looked like he would take the spot but had trouble on the final lap with a few bobbles. Gordon kept his cool and jumped from 5th to 3rd in dramatic finish!
4wd SCT B-Main – RESULTS
Bump up: Jason Sullivan, Chris Flewelling, Mark Baird
In this race we would welcome Reg Comeau to the 4wd SCT class. The top 3 from this B-Main race would bump up to the A-Main. Jason and Chris would take the top2 spots from the start to finish. Mark Baird went from his 5th starting position down to 7th and then back up to nab the 3rd and final bump up spot.
1-8 Buggy A-Main – RESULTS
2nd: Dave Heacock, 1st(TQ): Dario Paoletti, 3rd: Chris Flewelling
In 1-8 Buggy we would welcome Mark McKinnon to the class. Right from the starting tone, Dario would race from the pole position to take the first place with a very commanding run. Dave would improve on his 3rd place start to finish 2nd. Chris and Zack would battle back and forth for the 3rd spot for most of the race, with Chris taking the position late in the race and holding on till the tone.
1-8 Truggy A-Main – RESULTS
2nd: Mat LeBlanc, 1st(TQ): Stephane Doucet, 3rd: Chris Flewelling
Stephane was a force to be reckoned with in Truggy, and he lead the race from tone to tone to finish 1st. The story of the race was Mat who would improve on his 5th place starting position to finish 2nd. Chris would recover from an early bobble to finish 3rd.
