The 2021 Maritime Championship was hosted by the BlackFly Rc club at the track owned and operated by Stephane Doucet in Saint Laurent, New Brunswick. The race was held July 30, 31, and Aug 1. This was the first multi-day race held in the Maritimes in many years and was enjoyed by the 31 racers who attended the race.
With a multi-day race you have to take what the weather will give you, and this event started off wet with heavy rain on Friday which cancelled the planned practice session. Saturday started a little late as the track was dried. After the clouds parted and the sun came out, Saturday had a practice session starting from about 10am to 1:00pm followed by a seeding round and 2 rounds of qualifying ending at about 8:30 for the day. Sunday had perfect weather with the sun out and the remaining moisture in the track from the rain earlier in the week. The conditions were perfect for the 3rd qualifier and the triple A-Main finals.
Sunday came to a close after a very full day of racing. The triple A-Main format kept the racers guessing, with many of the main podiums being decided in the A3. After the long day of racing the awards were given out along with all of the door prizes Stephane was able to collect from event sponsors. This race even had a special presentation for the Best Marshal Award along with the Rookie Racer Award for the racers in their first big race!
Thanks to all racers who attended and made it a great day, to Stephane and track crew for hosting the event, and for all the event sponsors:

This race started very clean for the first lap, with most of the racers able to navigate the bumpy track. On the first lap David Jean would have a slight bobble at the end of the double jumps which would allow Gregg Lawton and Alex Rizi to move up a position. Gregg would stuff the pipe on the off camber corner the following lap allowing David to return to the 2nd spot. Alex would also have trouble on the off camber corner and would loose quite a few positions while getting marshalled. Maxim and David would get a gap to the rest of the pack, and would race close with Maxim finishing 1st with David finishing 2nd. Gregg would find himself finishing in 3rd just missing the extra lap. A notable racer was Guillaume Berube, who would fall as low as 8th but would recover to finish 4th.
1/10 2wd Buggy: A2-Main: RESULTS – High Angle – Low Angle – Hat Cam

At the start of this race Gregg Lawton would have some trouble on the sky jump and ended up jumping into the infield, falling from 3rd to 6th. This let Alex Rizi to move into 3rd. Then Maxim would roll at the end of the double- double allowing David Jean and Alex to move into the 1st and 2nd spots. Alex would keep the pressure on David, and in the next lap David would fumble in the double-double giving Alex the lead. One Alex had the lead he made no mistakes and held the spot to finish 1st. David would struggle a bit with the track, and this would allow Maxim to move into 2nd while David would fall to 3rd. Maxim would have some trouble in the double-double which gave David another shot at 2nd. On the last lap David would bobble in the step down section allowing Maxim to sneak by to finish 2nd while David would recover for 3rd.

1/10 2wd Buggy: B-Main: RESULTS – High Angle – Low Angle
1st: Rene Leblanc, 2nd: Anthony Bond, 3rd: Dany Mallet
In the B-Main, the top 3 would bump into the A-Main to reward the drivers. At the start of the race Rene Leblanc and Anthony Bond would break away from the group to have their close battle for 1st. Anthony would work his way to 1st but then would have a bobble on the launch of the double-double which would allow Rene and Dany to move into 1st and 2nd. Anthony would keep the pressure on Dany with a close battle for 2nd. The 2 collided at the end of the double-double section with both needing a marshal. In the excitement Anthony would get away quicker and get into 2nd while Dany assumed 3rd. At the end of the race Rene would finish 1st, Anthony 2nd, with Dany 3rd. Local favorite, young racer Guy Hache would have mechanical troubles which kept him from challenging the leaders in the race.
1/10 2wd Buggy: C-Main: RESULTS – Low Angle
1st: Guy Hache, 2nd: Yan Carbonelle, 3rd: Patrick Gionet
The top 3 finishers of the 2wd buggy C-Main would bump into the B as a reward for the drivers. Excitement was running high as this was the first final of the event to be run. Guy Hache was determined to make a bump spot, and he was able to take the lead during the first lap. Jesse would start strong but would have troubles as the race progressed, leaving the track and needing to be marshalled. This allowed David Nicholson to move into 2nd, and Yan Carbonnelle to move to 3rd. David would have mechanical problems and had to drop out early. Yan took advantage of that situation and moved into 2nd place with Jesse ever so temporary in 3rd. Jesse had a terrible traction roll at the end of the straight. Patrick Gionet found the pace and blew past Jesse to grab the 3rd spot on the podium!
1/10 2wd SCT: A-Finals
1st(tq): Trevor Furlotte, 2nd: Jonathan Comeau Duguay, 3rd: Jamie Duplessis
The 2wd SCT was a small turnout this year with a field of 4 trucks. Unfortunately for Serge Hache, the qualifying was tough on equipment and he ended up stripping transmission gears and missing the finals leaving the remaining 3 competitors to fight for their podium spots. In the racers Trevor had the hot setup and was able to get out ahead of the other racers and hold it for the win. Jonathan ran consistently and was able to take 2nd overall. Jamie was improving with each main, but in the A3 broke his truck. Trevor handed him the remote for his truck and Jamie was able to finish the main in style!

1/10 Stadium: A1-Main: RESULTS – High Angle – Low Angle
1st: Gregg Lawton, 2nd: Yan Carbonelle, 3rd: Dario Paoletti
In the A1 race the surprise was Yan Carbonnelle jumping from the tone from the 6th place start to the 3rd spot in a lap. Yan and Dario Paoletti would battle through the race over the 2nd spot, with Yan making a late race charge to finish 2nd with Dario finishing 3rd. Gregg had the fast setup and was able to take first leading from the tone. This race had the computer stop lap counting at the 4:30 mark, but after review it was felt that the finish positions were correct.
1/10 Stadium: A2-Main: RESULTS – High Angle – Low Angle
In A2 Gordon Mercer had a great start and jumped into 2nd spot over the first lap with Yan following closely in 3rd. Gordon and Yan would continue to race close until Gordon would bobble in the double-double section. Yan would make the pass for 2nd and Gordon would finish in 3rd. Gregg found some additional speed in this final and would finish 1st which would seal the deal for the overall win in the best of 3 finals.
1/10 Stadium: A3-Main: RESULTS – High Angle
In A3 Yan would again start strong, but would roll to a stop before completing the 2nd lap, looking like maybe an issue with the battery. Gregg would take the lead from the start and finish in 1st spot and take the overall. Gordon would quickly jump into the 2nd spot and race strong to finish the race in 2nd spot. Patrick Gionet would take control and pilot Patrick LaFlamme’s truck and finish in 3rd spot. Notable was Mark Baird moving up from his 7th place start to finish 5th.
1/10 4wd Buggy: A-Finals
1st(tq): David Jean, 2nd: Maxim Losier, 3rd: Alex Rizi, 4th: Guillume Berube, 5th: William Muirhead

1/10 4wd Buggy: A1-Main: RESULTS – High Angle – Low Angle – Hat Cam
1st: David Jean, 2nd: Guillaume Berube, 3rd: Alex Rizi
In A1 a notible absence was Maxim, who seemed to have car trouble and could not make the first main. From the tone David Jean and Alex rizi were able to get away from the field and build a little gap while Guillaume Berube was recovering from an early bobble on the double-double jump. David and Alex would try to pull away, but Alex would have an unfortunate flip on the Gens-Ace double allowing Guillaume to get by into 2nd. the top 3 would continue running strong for the remainder of the race finishing with David 1st, Guillaume 2nd, and Alex 3rd. Notable was William Muirhead, who recovered from a tough first lap where he was running 8th to finish 4th against a tough group of racers!
1/10 4wd Buggy: A2-Main: RESULTS – High Angle – Low Angle – Hat Cam
1st: David Jean, 2nd: Maxim Losier, 3rd: Alex Rizi
In A2 there was a shakey first lap with the top racers. David Jean would have troubles in the double-double section which would allow Guillaume Berube to temporarily take the lead. he would hold the lead for only a few laps until a bad tumble at the end of the double-double section oved him back to 3rd. David Jean would move to 1st, with Alex moving to 2nd. Maxim Losier was getting his wheels under him and began to catch the leaders. Maxim would catch Alex and began to apply pressure. Alex would have a bobble in the double-double section allowing Maxim to take 2nd and Alex would hold 3rd. David would have a very strong run and finish 1st, sealing the overall win with this finish!
1/10 4wd Buggy: A3-Main: RESULTS – Low Angle – Hat Cam
1st: Maxim Losier, 2nd: Alex Rizi, 3rd: David Jean
In A3, David had already won the overall but would race to finish the event strong. Alex Rizi would lead the first lap, but on his second lap he would have a bobble after the sky jump which dropped him to 4th. Guillaume and Maxim would battle for the first place spot, trading it back and forth racing close for many laps before a bobble would drop him to the 2nd spot. The race had a very chaotic last lap with lots of crashes as the racers tried to make the line for the extra lap. Maxim and Alex would get the extra lap with Maxim finishing 1st with alex 2nd. Guillaume would have a slow last lap and ended up in 4th, with David sneaking by for 3rd!
1/10 4wd Buggy: B-Main: RESULTS – High Angle – Low Angle
1st: Serge Hache, 2nd: Serge Beaudin, 3rd: Jesse Bell
4wd Buggy had enough entries for an A+B-mains. In the B-Main the top 3 racers would bump up to the triple A-Main, so this was a great reward for the winners. The theme of this race was a battle of attrition where the leader of the race would be jinxed with a mechanical problem. At the start of the race the top qualifier, Rene Leblanc, would suffer a mechanical problem on the 2nd lap and have to drop out. Maxime Denis would then take the lead of the race and have a good race with Dario Paoletti for the first place position. In the final laps of the race Maxime would have mechanical problems and drop out, and then Dario would also have mechanical issues and drop out. This allowed the next group of racers to battle for the podium! When the dust cleared we found Serge Hache took 1st, Serge Beaudin in 2nd, and Jesse Bell working his way to 3rd.
1/10 4wd SCT: A-Finals
1st(tq): Dario Paoletti, 2nd: Gregg Lawton, 3rd: Riel Leblanc, 4th: Patrick LaFlamme, 5th: Serge Hache

1/10 4wd SCT: A1-Main: RESULTS – High Angle – Low Angle
1st: Dario Paoletti, 2nd: Gregg Lawton, 3rd: Riel Leblanc
In this race there seemed to be a bit of an issue with the lap counter which caused a bit of confusion. Mark Baird’s transponder did not count so he was hand counted. and on the 3rd lap Dario missed a lap and had to be adjusted mid race. with that said Dario and Gregg put on a good show in the race, starting clean and pulling away from the main group. There was a bit of back and forth and Gregg was able to take the lead near the end of the race, but had a bobble in the step-down on the last lap which allowed Dario to get by for 1st with Gregg falling to 2nd. for the 3rd spot there was a battle between Patrick LaFlamme and Riel Leblanc. Patrick would move to 3rd on the last lap, but would bobble in the sky-jump allowing Riel to pull away and finish 3rd!
1/10 4wd SCT: A2-Main: RESULTS – High Angle – Low Angle
1st: Dario Paoletti, 2nd: Gregg Lawton, 3rd: Patrick Laflamme
In A2 Dario and Gregg would get a clean start and once again would pull a gap on the rest of the field. Dario would have a traction roll in the section after the sky-jump which allowed Gregg to sneak by for 1st with Dario in 2nd. With 2 minutes left Gregg would have a bobble after the double-double section which allowed Dario to pull right up to the back bumper. On the final lap Gregg would short the 2nd double-double which allowed Dario to retake 1st with Gregg settling for 2nd. Meanwhile, in the battle for 3rd Patrick Laflamme and Riel Leblanc would have a close back and forth battle. But with 4 laps to go Riel would have trouble in the double-double which would allow Patrick into the 3rd spot. Riel would do everything he could do for the final 2 minutes. Riel would get into a little incident with Serge Hache, but would recover slightly. The 3rd spot would go to Patrick with Riel coming in 4th.
1/10 4wd SCT: A3-Main: RESULTS – High Angle
1st: Gregg Lawton, 2nd: Dario Paoletti, 3rd: Riel Leblanc
In A3, Dario had sealed the overall win for the 4wd SCT by winning both the A1 and A2, so this race was to settle the remaining spots on the podium. At the tone The pack stayed quite close thru the first lap. Things looked to be going smoothly until Gregg had a touch on the pipe after the double-double which dropped him back to 5th. This gave Riel and Patrick time to take the 2nd and 3rd spot for a few laps. Riel would take a tumble in the step down section allowing Patrick into 2nd while Riel would hold 3rd. Gregg was on a mission to recover from his poor start, and would put the power down, jumping over Gordon in the double-double section with his eye on Riel in 3rd! Patrick would touch a pipe at the end of the step-down section, slowing riel and allowing Gregg to sneak by both of them to claim 2nd with riel following into 3rd. with 2 minutes to go Gregg had his eyes set on Dario in 1st. Dario would tumble at the end of the step-down and Gregg would pull to the back bumper! Dario would then touch a pipe and get out of shape before the double-double, which allowed Gregg to squeak into first with 20 seconds remaining. The race would end with Gregg 1st, Dario 2nd, and Riel flipping across the line in 3rd!
1/10 4wd SCT: B-Main: RESULTS – High Angle – Low Angle
1st: Jonathan Comeau Duguay, 2nd: Gordon Mercer, 3rd: Mark Baird
The 4wd SCT class had enough racers for an A&B-Main. The top 3 of the B-Main would be bumped into the A-Main, to give the racers a reward for putting in their best effort. At the start of the race Jonathan Comeau Duguay and Guy Hache would pull away from the rest of the group who were having a slower start. On the 2nd lap Guy would get into the lead, but then his truck would stop right before the double-double section. This would allow Jonathan to move into 1st, with Martin Doucet taking 2nd and Gordon Mercer taking 3rd. Martin would have a slow lap which allowed Mark Baird to catch him and take 3rd spot. Gordon would make a last lap challenge for 1st but would just fall short at the line, with Jonathan finishing 1st, Gordon 2nd, and Mark finishing 3rd.
1/8 E-Buggy: A-Finals
1st(tq): Maxim Losier, 2nd: David Jean, 3rd: Alex Rizi, 4th: Guillaume Berube, 5th: William Muirhead
1/8 E-Buggy is becoming very popular in the Maritime provinces. 16 racers entered the class to challenge for the podium. 16 racers meant an A&B-Main, with the podium winners of the B bumping up to the A-Main.
1/8 E-Buggy: A1-Main: RESULTS – High Angle – Low Angle – Hat Cam
1st: Maxim Losier, 2nd: David Jean, 3rd: Guillaume Berube
1/8 buggy A1Main was a very clean race with the racers turning some good laps. From the tone Maxim Losier and David Jean were able to pull away from the main group to give themselves a little breathing room. The battle for 3rd was a good one with Guillaume Berube, Alex Rizi, and William Muirhead each doing their best to challenge for the position. Guillaume and Alex would have a close race early in the race, but Alex would flip in the double-double allowing William to get by for 4th. The next lap Alex would recover to re-take 4th but could not get close enough to Guillaume to really challenge for the spot. the race ended with Maxim 1st, David 2nd, and Guillaume 3rd.
1/8 E-Buggy: A2-Main: RESULTS – High Angle – Low Angle – Hat Cam
1st: David Jean, 2nd: Alex Rizi, 3rd: Maxim Losier
The A2 race had a few more shakeups than the A1. Maxim had a bobble after the skyjump that was hard to marshal, and he fell to 9th before recovering to 7th. David Jean held the lead for a few corners after that, but then had a bobble in the step down. That allowed Alex Rizi, Guillaume Berube, and Rene Leblanc to sneak by. David would push hard and recover 3rd place on the following lap, making a nice pass on Rene. Guillaume would catch a corner and roll over, and this would allow David to sneak into 2nd with his sights on 1st. While Guillaume was flipped this allowed Maxim to catch up to his bumper. Alex would flip in the double-double section which allowed David to take 1st with Alex holding 2nd. In the battle for 3rd Maxim would chase Guillaume most of the race, but Guillaume would catch a rut at the end of the straight with only 2 laps left handing 3rd spot to Maxim. With time running out the buzzer would sound with David finishing 1st, Alex 2nd, and Maxim holding 3rd.
1/8 E-Buggy: A3-Main: RESULTS – High Angle – Low Angle – Hat Cam
1st: Maxim Losier, 2nd: David Jean, 3rd: Alex Rizi
A3 would decide the overall winner of the E-Buggy class with David and Maxim each having a 1st place. At the tone Maxim, David, and Alex would get a slight lead on the rest of the pack with some clean driving. About mid-race there was a pileup just after the step-down section that collected both Maxim and David. David got the lucky marshal and was able to get away 1st with Maxim now in 2nd. On the very next lap David would bobble after the sky-jump and this allowed Maxim to re-take 1st with Alex following in 2nd. Unfortunately for Alex, on the very next lap he would catch the rut right before the straight and roll, allowing David to slip by for 2nd. David tried hard but there just was not enough time left in the race to make the challenge for the lead. The race ended with Maxim 1st, David close behind in 2nd, and not far back was Alex for 3rd.
1/8 E-Buggy: B-Main: RESULTS – High Angle – Low Angle
1st: William Muirhead, 2nd: Trevor Furlotte, 3rd: Riel Leblanc
In the 1/8 E-Buggy B-Main the podium winners would bump up to the A-Mains. At the tone Patrick LaFlamme would touch the pipe going in to the first corner which would send him from the 1st spot to the 8th. This allowed William Muirhead, Trevor Furlotte, and Donald Denis into the lead positions. About mid-race William would get a little loose in the step down section and this would allow Trevor to make a nice inside pass to take the lead. Trevor would hold 1st for several laps but he would hit the rut before the straight and end up rolling allowing William to re-take 1st. In the race for 3rd Donald Denis would hold 3rd until the very last lap where Donald would get stuck on the pipe before the step-down section which would give time for hard charging Riel LeBlanc to catch up and make the pass in the step-down section. Donald tried for a last chance pass in the double-double section but was unable to make it stick. the race ended with William 1st, Trevor 2nd, and Riel 3rd.
1/8 E-Truggy: A-Finals
1st(tq): Maxim Losier, 2nd: Guillaume Berube, 3rd: Stephane Doucet, 4th: William Muirhead, 5th: Anthony Bond
1/8 E-Truggy is becoming a very popular class again, especially with the Northern NB clubs. For this race 11 racers from NB, NS, PE, and QC. to challenge for the top of the podium. With the 11 racers there were enough racers to run an A & B-Main which added to the challenge.
1/8 E-Truggy: A1-Main: RESULTS – High Angle – Low Angle
1st: Maxim Losier, 2nd: Guillaume Berube, 3rd: Stephane Doucet
In A1 the first lap was excellent. Maxim lead the first lap until Guillaume made a great inside pass in the corner coming on to the straight. On the next lap William would make a nice little pass in the infield after the stepdown to move into 2nd with Maxim falling to 3rd. On the next lap William would have a bobble in that step-down section which allowed Maxim back into 2nd with Stephane sneaking into 3rd! The race continued in the same order until Guillaume had a flip in the double-double section allowing Maxim to take 1st. The race finished with Maxim remaining in 1st, Guillaume holding 2nd, and Stephane improving to 3rd.
1/8 E-Truggy: A2-Main: RESULTS – Low Angle
In A2, the race had another good start. William would have a bobble in the double-double and drop from his 3rd place start to 7th. The race would continue until several laps in when Trevor would make a few bold infield passes to move into 2nd while Stephane would move to 3rd and Guillaume would fall to 4th. Trevor would continue in 2nd with Stephane close to his tail until Trevor would catch a rut before the front straight which would allow Stephan to take 2nd and Guillaume to slip by into 3rd. The race would continue in that order with Maxim finishing 1st, Stephane in 2nd, and Guillaume in 3rd.
1/8 E-Truggy: A3-Main: RESULTS – High Angle – Low Angle
1st: Maxim Losier, 2nd: Guillaume Berube, 3rd: Anthony Bond
Maxim would take the overall 1st spot based on his win in A1 and A2. In A3 the top racers would start the race running very close with Guillaume trying his best to make the pass on Maxim. Maxim would have a bobble in the double-double section which allowed Guillaume to move into 1st with Maxim dropping to 2nd. William was trying an alternate line in the double-double to make it a triple, but each time he landed it poorly new to the area racer Anthony bond would inch closer. Maxim was racing Guillaume very close for a few laps when Guillaume tapped a pipe from the pressure allowing Maxim into 1st with Guillaume falling to 2nd. In the battle for 3rd, Anthony would hound William lap after lap until William made a mistake on the off camber cone and stull the pipe. This allowed Anthony to sneak by for 3rd. William tried to quad jump the double-double in a last ditch effort to take back 3rd, but he cased on the 4th jump and needed a marshal giving Anthony all the space he needed to hold 3rd. William again tried to turn the double-double into a triple or quad, but again it didn’t work. The 2 had a great race to the finish with Anthony holding 3rd and William 4th. Maxim would again take 1st with Guillaume finishing 2nd.
1/8 E-Truggy: B-Main: RESULTS – High Angle – Low Angle
1st: Trevor Furlotte, 2nd: Dany Mallet, 3rd: Serge Hache
In the E-Truggy B-Main the race was a real challenge for 1st. Dany Mallet dusted off the truggy from last race and gave Trevor one heck of a race for first for the first half of the race. Danny would bobble in the double-double section and that gave a gap to Trevor that Dany could not close in time. In this race Jonathan Comeau Duguay would pull off the back flip over the sky-jump. The race continued with the top 3 well spaced with Trevor finishing 1st, Dany finishing 2nd, and Serge Hache holding steady in 3rd.
